SHANNON RIVER BASIN DISTRICT NOTICE
The Shannon Regional Fisheries Board was dissolved on June
30th, along with the Central and six other regional fisheries
boards. These were replaced by a new national agency IFI
'Inland Fisheries Ireland'. Establishment day was on July 1st,
2010.
This website will be phased out in time and content moved into the
new national single agency website/s in due course. Meanwhile most
elements of the website will continue to be fully
functioning, including our online licence and permit systems.

ESTABLISHMENT OF INLAND FISHERIES, JULY 1st.
Dublin, July 1st, 2010.
Minister for Natural Resources
Conor Lenihan heralded the establishment of Inland Fisheries Ireland
(IFI) today as an “historic development in the way we protect,
conserve and develop our nationally important inland fisheries
resource”. The IFI replaces 17 bodies formerly involved in the
management of the resource and is fully operational as of today.
The establishment of IFI is an important milestone in delivering a
new approach in the management of the inland fisheries sector. The
Minister stressed his determination as Minister to effect change
where this is needed. He said “We need a structure and organisation

ORDER, 2010
This Order appoints the 1st of July,
2010 as the day on which the Inland Fisheries Act 2010 (No 10 of
2010) comes into operation.

THE INLAND FISHERIES BILL 2009

Following on from the Government’s approval of proposals for the
restructuring of the inland fisheries sector this Bill sets out the
statutory basis for the establishment of Inland Fisheries Ireland.,
This is the new national inland fisheries body which will subsume
the existing Central Board and the seven Regional Fisheries Boards,
as well as the governance provisions.
