FLOODING AFFECTS COARSE ANGLING FOR THE SECOND WEEK RUNNING
It has been a very unsettled difficult week for coarse
angling with lots more rain in the catchment. The weather
is to settle down for the weekend, which is good news, but
to get much cooler than of late. Water levels are very
high in the Upper Shannon and lakes, with angling guests
of Melview lodge having to to use experience and
perseverance to bag some quality Bream to 4lbs. The
Carrick on Shannon Angling festival commenced on Monday
September 20th and will be fished for until Friday next,
September 24th. We will have a full report and results for
next weeks update. Watch this space! An angler fishing in
flood water at Shannonbridge village bridge had good

EUROPEAN PIKE ANGLING CHALLENGE KICKS OFF THIS WEEK AT KILLALOE
Trout fishing will soon be over and
anglers will direct their attentions to the autumn and winter Piking
season, with several competitions scheduled to whet their interest. We
hope to get all the up to date news on these in due course. Boyle and
District Angling Club members headed for Lough Gara earlier in the
month to fish for the Paddy Kelly Perpetual Memorial cup. Fishing
improved after a slow start. The upper River Suck Valley was bank high
up to Thursday and most angling stands were under water. The river has
been dropping since and slowly getting back to normal as we write.
There are a number of overseas visitors Pike fishing on the Shannon in
the Shannonbridge area. Some of these anglers had success, even in the
rising waters. Heading south, the Pikefly competition was fished on
the Shannon out of Killaloe on Saturday and was won by Irish angler
Tommy Conway. The European Pike Angling Challenge kicked off this

SALMON AND TROUT FISHING AFFECTED BY VERY HIGH WATER LEVELS
Lough Sheelin continues to fish well with some lovely wild fish showing. Late
evening and early morning fishing is not as productive as it was, due to the
advancing season. Michael Flanagan reports on his recent fishing trip to Lough
Ennell. Some good Ennell trout are being caught trolling but proving difficult
to meet on the fly. We will be reporting on the end of season competitions on
our midland fisheries over the remaining few weeks of the season, so do tune in.
Lough Owel hasn't been fishing as well over the week, probably due to the rising
water levels. The competition for the Leinster Shield was fished on Owel on
Sunday. Athlone Anglers Association reports on the last of their association’s
trout competitions. Last Sunday thirty two boats set out on Lough Ree to fish
for the Keneavy Memorial Cup. The competition for the Halligan Cup in aid of the
Lough Ree Fish Hatchery will take place next ....
