Immediately east of the
Killimer Ferry slipway is a long beach which is relatively free
of rock and weed. Car parking is at the Ferry Terminal. The beach
is very comfortable to fish as it is also out of the main tide
stream. Catches of Bull Huss to 9lbs, Thornback ray to 8lbs,
Conger and Dogfish are possible here. Mackerel is the most
productive bait, especially for Conger and the flood tide is the
most productive period.
Bait
Bait can be
collected to the west side of Kilrush inlet, this is via a left
turn immediately after the graveyard, Cars can be parked at the
end of this road where it meets the beach. This is an excellent
area for lugworm. The sandy strip in the middle of the beach
below the Sewage Works produces good quality black lugworm. The
best time to dig is at extreme low water, with one hour either
side of high tide. Soft and peeler crab can also be collected
there and most crabs may be found buried in the sand under the
serrated wrack.
