ACCESS: Access is good at road bridges
FACILITIES: Open bank, bank side can be difficult in
some sections
FISHERY DESCRIPTION: The River Brosna rises in Lough Ennell, near Mullingar
in Co Westmeath and flows through Co Offaly where it joins the Shannon
at Shannon Harbour and the Grand Canal. Wild Brown trout to 3lbs +
are present and Croneen (L. Derg migratory trout run the system). During
the summer months small runs of salmon enter the river with best fishing
at Clonooney and Belmont in Co Offaly. It is a limestone water and fish
can be caught using wet and dry flies. While access is good at the road
bridges the banks can be difficult to negotiate in places due to
drainage works undertaken in the 1960's.
