MAYFLY STILL HATCHING
ON SHEELIN AND WORTH FISHING DURING LATE EVENING
Mayfly are still hatching on
Sheelin and with improved weather conditions spent fishing should
be possible over the coming week. Sedge should also provide late
evening sport in the sultry conditions we are having at present.
Fishing was quiet on O'Flynn with perch fry dominating the trout
menu. Pat Higgins reports on Glasha Lake in Co Limerick.
Conditions were perfect for
Salmon fishing on the Mulcair River Co Limerick. following a spate
last week. Plenty of Salmon were caught and excellent trout fishing
was reported on the Mulcair and tribs. While there was a good flood
on the River Feale, Salmon fishing was disappointing with very few
fish running.

L.S.T.P.A. anglers have been fishing the lake with some success.
Gene Kelly had a nice fish of 5.5lbs on Murrough. Regular to the
lake Michael Kelly had 11 trout over three trips, best 3.5lbs on
small dry sedges, all released. Christie Slater from Mullingar had
two trout on dry fly averaging 2.5lbs. About 10 other anglers had
good sedge fishing, fish averaging over 1.5lbs.

Mark Wilson and brother Martin from
Co. Antrim along with friends David Smyth and Roy Mc Cartney
fished the lake for a week. Marks friend Mark Brennan who came
over from Dundalk for a day caught his first ever wild Brown Trout
on a lake, a fish of 2.5lbs. All had fish up to this
weight and Roy and Mark both lost large fish in the evening around Crover. All commented on the great head of fish in the lake and
the friendly welcome they received from local people and anglers
and how great it was to see Sheelin return to the top table of
trout lakes, well done to the board and the LSTPA.

LOUGH O'FLYNN & UPPER RIVER SUCK
Fishing was quiet on O'Flynn. There were
a few anglers out over two days but little angling activity was
evident over the weekend. Anglers reported fish feeding in the middle
of the lake on Perch fry but are proving difficult to catch. Deep
sinking lines with Muddlers, silver dabblers and Alexander are the
best flies and tactics to use. There were a few angling returns -
Anthony Baggott had two fish of over 1.5lbs and John Connolly had one
fish over two short evenings fishing. With Perch fry on the trout
menu, fishing is expected to be quiet for a week or so. Anglers should
try some dry fly fishing this time of year with small sedges in the
evening. If there is a breeze dapping the grasshopper with worth a
try.

best fish of the week was a 3.5lb Rainbow which was
caught on a Peter Ross. All the usual flies
associated with Lough Acalla are getting results.

RIVER MULCAIR CO
LIMERICK
Report 22nd June 2009
SALMON FISHING
We had perfect conditions during the past week with rain some days
which gave a nice rise to the river and freshened the system. It
attracted a lot of salmon into the Mulcair from the Lower Shannon the
upper sections of the Mulcair fished best with good numbers of salmon
caught each day.
Guests at Millbank had a very good week. Tony Murphy from England had
2 salmon 8lbs and 7.5 lbs on the fly at Scart on the main river. Peter
Sergreve (English) had also two grilse 5lbs and 7lbs on worms and
spinning flying 'C". Maurilio Consonne from Italy had 1 nice salmon on
11lbs on the fly on the Millbank stretch. Some local anglers Mike
Doherty Limerick had salmon mainly on fly from 6lbs- 11lbs. Joe Keays
had one fish of 4lbs on spinner. Tom Lees had three salmon to 8lbs.
TROUT FISHING
We had excellent Trout fishing in June due to the warm weather. Some
anglers had exceptional catches of up to 50 trout in one day on the
fly. I must also say that the Trout fishing was confined to the early
morning and late evening on the Bilbao and Newport Rivers.
Vincent Lagrange (French) did very well in six days fishing, catching
62 trout mainly on a variety of sedges. Michel Frier (French) had 43
Trout in 5 days with some in the 35-40 cm but mainly 25-30 cm, all on
fly
The biggest trout were caught on the Newport River. At Millbank we
fish four different rivers for trout in the week and all these wild
brownies are returned to the River as is our recommendation at
Millbank.
ShRFB reports for the
RIVER FEALE CO KERRY
At time of writing our report last
week, there was a big
yellow flood on the River Feale. Expectations were high that there
would be quite good fishing on the dropping flood, not to be!.
Fishing was slow and with the water levels low following a warm
week since, conditions are not favourable for Salmon fishing.
