Photo: CATCH OF THE WEEK - This lovely 5lb River Fergus trout caught by visiting angler Chris Kinsella (London) on September 19th

SOME MIDLAND LAKES REMAIN OPEN FOR TROUT ANGLING UNTIL OCTOBER 12th.

This week marks the end of the Trout and Salmon fishing season on most of our game fisheries in what was a mixed year with very poor summer weather. Some of our midland lakes remain open until October 12th. We will be reporting on these over the next two weeks. The National Competition dominated the news on Ennell with 120 anglers taking part. 34 pleasure anglers returned 48 fish for the week on Owel. The DTH Trout competition was fished on Owel on Sunday Sept 28th. 22 anglers caught 32 fish. Catch of the week was a lovely 5lb river trout caught on the River Fergus by a visiting London angler. Salmon fishing ended on a fairly quiet note on the Mulcair and River Feale in what was a very good month overall for Salmon fishing. NB: Salmon anglers now that the season has ended may we remind you that you need to return your completed Logbook - see notice below.    TIGHT LINES!

RETURNING LOGBOOKS AND UNUSED TAGS

RIVER FERGUS

Chris Kinsella (London) reports on his recent trip to the River Fergus system

I'm sending through a shot of nice trout (5lb) I had from the Fergus whilst staying at Poplar Cottages. The fish was caught on a small G+H sedge in the river above Loch Inchiquin after it was dropping from the heavy rains. The fish was caught on the 19th September.

After rowing around the lake for five days with only one small trout for the effort - great to take such a fish on the last afternoon not 100 yards walk from where we were staying!

Definitely coming back for another go in the spring - beautiful place and some really big fish in there.

Chris Kinsella (London)
