INCLEMENT EASTER
WEATHER KEEPS ANGLERS AT BAY
The weather was cold and
unsettled over Easter and there's no mild weather forecast in the
coming days. Due to the conditions angling was slow with few anglers
about. Despite good fly water less than a handful of Salmon were
caught in the River Feale and anglers were thin on the ground due to
the scarcity of fish. TIGHT
LINES!

UNSETTLED EASTER WEATHER KEEPS ANGLERS AT BAY
The Easter weekend was a big let down weather
wise as far as the angling was concerned. There
was very strong winds and very cold conditions
which kept the fishing at a minimum. On the
trout scene Lough Ennell will host their A.G.M.
this Wednesday night in the Greville Arms Hotel
ENNELL A.G.M.
Lough Ennell Trout Preservation Association will
hold their annual general meeting tonight
Wednesday March 26th. I am away that day and
hopefully I will get home in time for the meeting.
It's a well known fact catching a trout on Ennell
is tough
to say the least. Looking through the competition
results for 2007 only sixteen trout were caught
for five competitions. The best result coming
during the Christy Sleator competition when six
fish were recorded. There is a full program of
competitions once again this season with five
trout competitions and the family day out, which
is all species. Plus the annual pike competition
at the end of the trout season. The 2007 annual
report looks very good and well done to all
concerned on producing this years report. Well
known Mullingar angler Jimmy Stenson is
photographed on the front cover with his winning
trout from the Rex Beaumont Cup. Harry Lynch
Hon-Secretary of Lough Ennell Trout Preservation
Association gave a detailed account of the ups and
downs of the 2007 season. Treasure Michael Murphy
covered the finance situation of L.E.T.P.A., and
John Tyrrell along with younger brother Alan
covered the competition scene for 2007. Some
interesting talking points are to be discussed at
this years A.G. M. and as I said all going well I
will get to the meeting.

CAMCOR RIVER BIRR
The ShRFB issued a Press Release on February 25th, 2008. We request
that anglers familiarise with new conservation measures for the
fishery.
"This year the Shannon Regional Fisheries Board has introduced a new
trout conservation measure on its fishery, River Camcor, in
association with the Camcor and Little Brosna Angling Club. This
follows concerns that trout stocks were being fished by unsustainable
means.
This new regulation will ensure that trout stocks will be maintained
and that anglers will be able to enjoy angling on the Camcor into
the future.
The conservation measure of Fly Fishing Only will be enforced by
Fisheries Staff who will patrol the river during the open season
which commences on the 1st March 2008 until the 30th September.
The Camcor and Little Brosna is an important salmon and trout
fishery and every effort will put in place to sustain and develop
its potential. Therefore, we urge all anglers to abide by this
conservation measure and practice catch and release when possible.
If anglers have any queries please contact Shannon Regional
Fisheries Board.

CELTIC ANGLING SERVICES Co Limerick reports on a recent
group visit
Photo: Left to right they are Johan, Peter,
Frederik, Ulf and lastly Kaj, the senior of the
group and also the Project Manager.
5 visitors from
Aland, a 6,500 island Archipelago
(30MILESx30 MILES) in the Baltic Sea,
between Finland and Sweden. They are all
involved in the
angling/guiding/accommodation sector there
and arrived in Ireland on St. Patrick's Day
for a glimpse of how we do business here.
They fly-fished with me on Tuesday last and
I took them hill-walking and sightseeing on
Wednesday, they returned on Thursday.
Remarkably neither of them had ever
fly-fished, surprising, as they have a
wealth of great shallow (Saltwater) water
fishing for sea-trout and Baltic Salmon.
They also have pike, same as ours, but in
the sea! They really enjoyed their time here
and were blessed with the weather window we
got for those two days. They've invited me
there in November for a return match!
