LIVELY SALMON ACTION
REPORTED FROM THE RIVER MULCAIR IN LIMERICK
Trout fishing is presently
in a lull period on our midland lakes with the exception of Sheelin
where good hatches of sedge and Mayfly were evident. Anglers had
some good fish up to 4.5lbs on dry flies.
Anglers reported satisfactory fishing for the past
week on Lough Acalla despite the very inclement
weather with bag limits obtained by most anglers. Heavy rain and
floods over the week suited some of our spate rivers and brought a
run of fish. The start of the croneen trout run was evident on the
Camcor River in Birr and attracted a good contingent of local
Birr anglers to try their luck, results were mixed though. On the
Salmon angling front there was ideal water on the River Feale but
unfortunately Salmon are scarce in the system at present. On the Mulcair water levels
and angling conditions were also ideal for Salmon fishing with
lively action and excellent results over the past 10 days. Bleach Lough Anglers
based in Co Limerick are to host
a trout competition for the Mike Fenton Memorial Cup on Sunday 13th
July - see full report for further information. TIGHT
LINES!
UPPER SHANNON

LOUGH SHEELIN
There were good hatches of sedges and
buzzer and Mayfly are still hatching on Sheelin but weather has spoiled the
gnat fishing. If weather improves there should be a fall of gnat
which should provide some sport.
Some good fish were caught over the week. Regular angler to the lake Michael
Kelly from Balbriggan - L.S.T.P.A. had 9 fish over the week on dry
sedges, best 3.5lbs, all released. Thomas Lynch - L.S.T.P.A.
caught and released 2 trout of 2.75lbs and 2lbs also on dry
sedges. Gene Brady L.S.T.T.A. had 3 trout on dry Mayfly, best
2.75lbs. Finbarr Harten - Cavan and USA had 2 fish of 4.5lbs and
2lbs on dry sedges. If weather settles down there should be quite
good fishing prospects.
