Game Angling & Fisheries News Update dated

Wednesday July 23rd, 2008

SHEELIN AND LOUGH ACALLA THE HOTSPOTS THIS WEEK

It was a mixed but improved week weather-wise. Air temperatures have risen and it's slightly more settled than of late with better angling conditions. There were prolific hatches of sedge on Sheelin and conditions were described as ideal for fishing with some quality wild fish caught to small dry sedges. Similar to last week anglers who are putting in the effort on O'Flynn are getting results, particularly during late evening sessions. The Daddy is now accounting for some fish both dapping and to wet fly patterns on the fishery. There were very few anglers out on Ennell with little to report. There was good angling conditions reported on Owel. 10 anglers returned 16 fish, all on fly. There was another good week on Acalla with a notable improvement in fly hatches and a corresponding good rise of fish. There is only a scattering of croneen observed along the usual holding pools on the Camcor River in Birr with the odd fish being caught by mainly local anglers night fishing with wet fly. On the Salmon angling front fishing has slowed as water levels have dropped back on the River Mulcair and River Feale.   TIGHT LINES!

NB: Due to holidays the Angling Section will be closed from July 25th to August 12th, we regret we will be unable to publish reports during this time. Our next angling update will feature here on Friday August 15th - join us then.

Michael Kelly had other good fish recently on the lake. John Murphy caught and released two fish. Gene Brady L.S.T.P.A. had two fish on Wednesday.  Pat Bannon released 3 fish on Sunday and Monday. Thomas Harten had 2 fish.  Cahill Rush from Northern Ireland had quite good fishing. Prospects are very promising for the coming week with warmer evenings forecast for the next few days.
