GAME FISHING SEASON OPENS
TODAY MARCH 1st ON MOST OF THE REGIONS FISHERIES ON A VERY
CHILLY NOTE
The season opens on most of our game fisheries today
Wednesday March 1st. For those who decide to venture on our waters do wrap up
well as it's very cold and forecast to get colder with the risk of snow. From now on we will be featuring a weekly fishing report,
so anglers can login every Wednesday to see what's happening around the region. A UCD
Phd student is presently
conducting a Zebra Mussel Control Initiative Survey and needs your help. Anglers
are encouraged to complete the survey which we have made available
ONLINE. Deadline
is March 6th. Thanks for your co-operation TIGHT

OPENING DAY....
I
find it very difficult to write this
week angling report, as my mind
keeps flashing to the opening day of our
wild brown trout season which starts
today March 1st. Over the weekend plenty
of boats were seen heading towards our
local lakes. I hope to travel to Lough
Lene for the opening day. Mind you its
going to be very cold and you would be
advised to wrap up well for the 1st, and
don't forget your life-jacket. The lakes
are a little low at the moment, but I
have no doubt some super trout will be
caught over the coming days. If your a
River Angler the Brosna is very low, but
is in great condition for trotting a
worm of two. I walk the Brosna quite
often with my dogs and have seen some
super trout. Angling Focus wishing all
fellow anglers a successful opening day,
and hopefully we will here some
"Screaming Reels"..
LOUGH ENNELL....
Last Friday night February 24th Lough
Ennell Trout Preservation Association
held a committee meeting. The meeting
was adjourned for 15minutes as a mark
of respect for the late President
Mr Sean Downes who sadly passed away
last year. Sean will be sadly missed
by Lough Ennell Anglers, and I am sure
tributes will be pouring in on March
29th when the club hold their A.G.M.
in the Greville Arms Hotel.
WESTMEATH STUDENT NEEDS ANGLERS HELP....
Recently I had a meeting with UCD
student Sorcha O'Brien from Ballymahon
Road, Athlone. Sorcha is carrying out a
Zebra Mussel Control Initiative Survey
and is looking for some help on
gathering info on her chosen subject.
When completed the survey will help her
with completion of a Masters in world
Heritage & Management with University
Collage Dublin and Unesco Paris. At
present Sorcha is targeting Angling
clubs who have their A.G.M. coming up.
If you feel like helping out Sorcha with
her survey she would be delighted to
hear from you. The 6th March is deadline
for Surveys. You can complete this
survey
