OUR MIDLAND LAKE FISHERIES GO INTO SLUMBER AS TROUT GO ON PERCH FRY

Our midland fisheries have gone into slumber and we now await the Green Peter season expected to commence from about mid July. We'll keep you posted. Farther south Millbank Angling Centre reported good trout fishing on the Mulcair Catchment.  Salmon fishing has started to pick up with the first decent run of summer fish appearing on the Shannon. A Spanish party had a few good fish over the week on Castleconnell Salmon Fishery.   TIGHT LINES!

LOUGH SHEELIN

Report Week-ending 25/06/06:

There's not a lot of trout angling evident on Sheelin this week. Anglers did catch and release a few smaller trout. John Little, Cavan Anglers had one good fish of 4lbs. Fly hatches:

Mark Wilson reported that he  fished O' Flynn on Sunday and he and his fishing partner had 2 trout for 2 and a half pounds on fry patterns. He fished Sheelin on Monday - no fish and commented that water was very clear in the lake.

Lough O'Flynn is fishing quite well in the evening time to mostly wet flies, dabblers and invictas are working well. Fish are on perch fry and fishing is likely to slow down for a few weeks. John Connolly from Castlerea had two fish for 5lbs on a dabbler. Matt Foley and Bernard Mannion were out fishing most evenings returning 4 to 5 fish each day, many of the fish were released.

TROUT FISHING

The trout fishing on the river has being very good over the past weeks. I had a French party fly fishing on the upper stretches of the Bilboa river  and they were catching around thirty trout daily. I had a Dutch group fishing on the Newport river and they told me it was the best trout fishing in their lives, catching twenty trout each day up to 32cm. All these trout were returned to the river  as we have a catch and release policy at Millbank.

SALMON FISHING

Salmon fishing is slow for this time of year.  June generally is our best month for grilse. There are approx ten catches of grilse reported each day.
