Game Angling & Fisheries News, Announcements, Upcoming Events/Notices & Reports: (Salmon & Trout Fishing)

GOOD MAYFLY FISHING COMMENCING ON LOUGH DERG AT TIME OF WRITING

Weather remains unsettled but much milder than of late and this is bringing on good hatches of Olives on most Midland lakes with trout starting to show interest. Some Mayflies are hatching and there was very lively fishing reported in patches in recent days on the southern shores of Lough Derg at Mountshannon, Garrykennedy and Killaloe areas. Hopefully weather will oblige and allow for comfortable fishing over the coming week. We'll keep you posted on any exceptional Mayfly angling news we hear about. Pallas Lake in Co Offaly is also featuring in our angling news.

Salmon fishing was rather slow overall despite good angling conditions and plenty of water particularly on the River Feale in Co Kerry. The highlight of the salmon angling week was a fine specimen sized salmon of 21lbs caught by an Abbeyfeale angler on the River Feale. TIGHT LINES!

LOWER SHANNON AREA

ShRFB reports for the RIVER FEALE CO KERRY

Nice water for most of the week but only 4 fish were reported all week, a good flood again on Thursday provided ideal water but fishing was disappointing considering the conditions.  Monday April 25th proved the best day. Sean Enright Listowel had a 5lb fish on a fly. Timmy O'Sullivan Abbeyfeale had a lovely fresh run salmon of 6lbs. On Tuesday Jack Murphy Abbeyfeale had a nice 8lb salmon. The Highlight of the week was the specimen salmon of 21lbs caught by  Timmy O'Sullivan, Abbeyfeale. Despite the good river conditions, Salmon fishing hasn't been as good as expected.
