Game Angling & Fisheries News, Announcements, Upcoming Events/Notices & Reports: (Salmon & Trout Fishing)

Dated Wednesday June 22nd, 2005

TROUT ANGLING QUIET GENERALLY AS FISH  DIRECT THEIR ATTENTION TO THE EXPLOSIONS OF PERCH FRY ON OUR MIDLAND LAKES

Overall it was a non eventful week with the Mayfly season now over and the trout directing their attentions to the perch fry. Lough O'Flynn did produce some quality fishing when conditions were favourable, mainly late evening.  Weatherwise it was pleasantly warm and settled and this is forecast to continue into next week, so maybe try late evening sessions. There's little news on the Salmon Angling front yet - we expect a grilse run soon on the Shannon.  TIGHT LINES!

LOUGH GLORE....

Last Sunday Lough Glore anglers were in action in the Connie's Bar & Lounge open competition for trout. It was a tough day for trout fishing with brilliant sunshine beaming down on the super little fishery. On the day local fly expert Fergus Dunne came out top rod with Mark Donought second and Mick Hayden was third. Once again Amanda Smith won the Juniors with Colin McCormack taking second place. The lake is producing some nice trout late into the evening, so if you fancy your chances on Glore contact Castlepollard Angling Centre 044-61852.

LOWER SHANNON AREA

ShRFB reports for the RIVER FEALE CO KERRY

River conditions are at summer level but that did not stop Paul O Sullivan from catching his first Salmon of the season, while fly fishing on the evening of the 13th . Paul hooked a fish on a small Claret fly, the fish was reluctant to be caught and just played slow and deep and for a lot of the time just stayed glued to the one spot in mid river. After a lot of coaxing and 2 full hours later the fish was still only playing with Paul. In the finish a helping hand was got from retired Fishery Officer Michael O Brien who came on the scene and with his expertise and a few stones in the right place the fish finally started to play but it still took Paul another hour and almost dark before he was finally in the net, the fish weighed in at 16lbs 9 ozs and no doubt Michael O' Brien got a middle cut for his part. This was the only fish reported for the week.

" The fly fishing for trout has slowed down with the showing of large shoals of fry which the trout are now feeding on. The Nenagh river is still fishing well with lots of fish being caught on small patterns such as the olive or the klinkhammer special.

Tight lines.
