Game Angling & Fisheries News, Announcements, Upcoming Events/Notices & Reports: (Salmon & Trout Fishing)

Dated Wednesday July 6th, 2005

Photo: 16.5lb salmon caught recently on the River Feale

GRILSE  SLOWLY ARRIVING IN THE LOWER SHANNON AND CASTLECONNELL SALMON FISHERY

Overall trout fishing remains quiet with the exception of Lough O'Flynn which has been lively. The Peter hatch is just starting on our midland lakes and heralds the commencement of another Green Peter season and an important angling milestone in the game angling calendar. It will take a little time for the Peter hatch to build up sufficiently to get the trout interested and bring on a proper take.  This is likely to occur over the next two weeks which will hopefully provide good sport into August.

Salmon fishing has been slow so far on the Shannon. At time of writing grilse are starting to filter into the lower Shannon and the Castleconnell Salmon beats in better numbers - lets hope the run builds up sufficiently to provide good sport in the coming weeks.  TIGHT LINES!
