FISHERY DESCRIPTION: Poolboy or better known as the Mill
of Poolboy is on the River Suck near Ballinasloe. This was developed by the Central and Shannon Regional Fisheries Board
back in the 1990's. The Ballinasloe Chamber of Commerce after much
consultation with the Office of Public Works commenced a navigation
project back then to allow cruiser traffic to navigate from the confluence of the
River Suck which is located downstream of Shannonbridge up to
Ballinasloe town. The works necessitated the removal of the salmon fords
at Correen and the stretch known as Reilly's ford. Fisheries staff drew up
plans in collaboration with the stakeholders to provide this as an
alternative fishery in compensation. These works were fully
completed in the late 1990's providing an angling stretch of circa
650 meters in length, consisting of six fishing pools.
