SALMON SEASON: Salmon fishery is closed in
2010
CONSERVATION OF SALMON AND SEA TROUT
BYE LAW NO. C.S. 304, 2009 (Closed Rivers).
This
Bye-law prohibits the taking or attempting
to take by rod and line salmon and sea trout
over 40 cm in the rivers specified in the Bye-law.

ACCESS: Starting from upstream
the access points are:

Ballydoneen Bridge on main Ennis/Kilrush Road.

Shaughnessy’s Cross just off the main Kilrush
Road.

Tullycrine Mill 100 meters off the Kilrush Rd.

Cooraclare downstream of the village

Doonbeg upstream of the village
FACILITIES: Footbridges on several stretches
PERMISSION TO FISH: Not Required.
However, while these are free fisheries, the local angling club (West
Clare Anglers) monitors and improves the fisheries. They advise
and kindly request guest membership available in Tackle shops
in Kilrush, Doonbeg and Kilmihil. Please observe our country
code.
FISHERY DESCRIPTION: The Doonbeg river is
located in West Co Clare. The River rises near the Kilmihil/Kilmaley
border and flows southwest for approx 14 miles through Cooraclare before
entering the sea at Doonbeg. The landscape is boggy. Greygrove and Tullycrine are usually fly-fished during the summer months when there is a run of
grilse and sea trout. However, please note that the fishery is closed to Salmon & Sea trout angling under present angling Bye Law regulations,
as it has not reached its conservation limit.
