Tarmonbarry is located on the Upper Shannon. The
river forms the boundary between Co Roscommon and Co. Longford see thumbnail map top right. It lies about 5 miles to the
west of Longford town and about 85 miles from Dublin, to the
east.
WHERE TO FISH
There are a number of fishing venues situated
around the centre. The main Shannon runs adjacent to Tarmonbarry village with swims located upstream
and downstream of
the bridge. There is also the Camlin River to the east and the
Feorish River to the west. This guide
describes these fisheries in some detail and provides angling
notes. We hope you find these useful
A fish stock survey conducted in 2003 published in
April 2004 indicates that the area of the River Shannon from Drumsna to Rooskey
supports a large and healthy stock of coarse fish dominated by Roach / Bream
hybrids, Roach, Perch and Bream in that order. Relatively small numbers of
Tench, Pike, Rudd and trout were encountered in the surveyed sections. A copy of the report Entitled:
"Status of fish stocks on the River Shannon between Roosky and Drumsna" can be
requested in hard copy by emailing the angling section to
