Pike Angling report - Shannon River Basin District

Dated Wednesday September 8th, 2010

Photo: Angling guests of Mike Murray on the Shannon at Portumna during the week.

NEAR DROUGHT CONDITIONS ARE NOW REPLACED BY FLOOD CONDITIONS ON MOST PIKE WATERS

There is very little news this week. Water levels are significantly up the previous week's near drought conditions. 22 anglers weighed in 18 Pike in the Clancy Cup Pike competition fished on Oakport Lake on August 21st, Boyle and District Anglers reports. The River Suck is presently in flood and water levels are up everywhere along the Shannon system. Angling conditions should be good for Pike fishing, if we don't get too much more rain over the coming week.  TIGHT LINES!

RESULTS OF THE CLANCY CUP PIKE COMPETITION ...

On Saturday afternoon the 21st of August Boyle and District Angling Club fished for the Clancy Cup on Oakport Lake. in 2004 Ann Clancy kindly sponsored this event and since that time it has become a favourite with the club.

Weather conditions were perfect for the 22 anglers that took part. A lot of the pike were caught were small but some good fish were registered too. 18 fish in total were weighed and released.

The winner was Tom Commons. The prize was the Clancy Cup and winners cheque. The runner up was Declan Conroy. The prize was a voucher for a meal for 2 in Clarke's Bar and Restaurant.

Presentation took place on Saturday night in Clancy Bar Knockvicar and as usual the hospitality shown by Ann and Des was second to none. A great nights entertainment followed. The club would like to thank Ann and Des for there kindness and already we look forward to 2011.
