ShRFB reports for the MULLINGAR AREA

Lough Derravarragh: There was some excellent Pike fishing on Lough Derravaragh this week.  On Saturday 1st May seven Italian anglers returned 17 pike – heaviest 18lbs. ECO EYE ON REE: Last September we spend a few hours on Ree with Tanya Stuart of Eco Eye fame. The last program ran last Tuesday evening on R.T.E. and it featured some fishing on Ree. It created a buzz in the Midlands but some viewers missed the program, and it can be viewed on http://www.rte.ie/player/#v=1071675 . Hopefully we will see more angling slots coming on our National TV channels. I always said angling is a huge sport, and is worth its weight in gold to the Tourism sector.

PIKE SCENE: I spent a day on Ennell last week with Paul O'Callaghan of Angling World. Paul has one of Ireland's top Angling Centres situated in Navan. We boated 3 pike and got a few more hits. The weather conditions were bad, and we took a real beating from the wind. Paul will be back in town soon, and next time we will get a picture of him in action. If you fancy checking out his angling centre at http://www.anglingworld.ie  .

GLORE WINNERS: On Glore Joe O'Donnell won the recent club pike competition with a pike of 7lbs 9oz. Peter Smith finished 2nd, with young Roisin Smith taking 3rd spot. The club are planning more pike competitions in the coming weeks, and all going well we will hook up with the Glore Anglers.
