Pike Angling Update Shannon River Basin District

dated Wednesday August 4th, 2010

Photo: Lough Ennell Pike, picture courtesy of Michael Flanagan, angling correspondent.

GOOD PIKE FISHING REPORTED ON THE SHANNON AT PORTUMNA

Ennell has been throwing up some decent Pike lately as evidenced in the feature picture this week. Also boat hire clients of Mike Murray, Portumna had success on the Shannon around Portumna Bridge. Other than that, we have received very few Pike fishing reports this week, it's been very quiet. TIGHT LINES!

LOUGH DERRAVARAGH

Nevin Maguire, well known chef from Blacklion in Cavan accompanied by Pat Weir of Multyfarnham tried his hand at fly fishing for pike over two days recently on Lough Derravaragh. He caught 1 pike weighing 6lbs.

ENNELL MONSTERS FOR ANDREW

We received a cracking photo of young Andrew Niven with a real Monster pike from Ennell. Andrew stuck it out for two days prior to landing his prized catch at 10pm one night on Ennell. Priceless photo of a super catch. Well done Andrew and keep at the Angling.

RIVER SHANNON, PORTUMNA

Boat hire clients of mine reported good pike fishing, accounting for 6 fish in one outing between 5lbs - 18lbs and were smashed by much bigger specimens. All the pike were taken within 800m of Portumna Bridge. Generally there are surprisingly few anglers taking advantage of the improved conditions over the last couple of weeks.
