Coarse Angling & Fisheries News Update

Dated Wednesday June 2nd, 2010

Photo: Lee from Doncaster with 100lbs + of Bream and Tench. Guest of Kevin Lyons, Melview.

GREAT BREAM FISHING REPORTED ON THE REMOTE ISLAND SWIMS ON LOUGH DERG AT KILLALOE

We had a few reports this week and judging from the feedback received, coarse fishing has been very good in places, with best sessions during early morning and late evening sessions in the present very bright weather. Kevin Lyons and his guests did quite on Bream and Tench in the Strokestown lakes. Not many reports from the mid Shannon region. The town stretch at Banagher is fishing in the evening time, with Bream showing. also the town stretch at Portumna is producing good bags of  hybrids and Roach. The remote lake swims on Lough Derg around Killaloe have been the hotspot this week which are throwing up super bags of Bream for a party of UK anglers.  Prospects look good for next week. TIGHT LINES!

UPPER SHANNON

RIVER SHANNON AT LANESBORO

No reports this period.

Ian Young reports on his recent visit to venues in the Upper Shannon Region.

" I am from Selby in North Yorkshire on my second visit this year. I had 3 evening sessions on Lough Scur on the pumphouse fishing the short pole or waggler and had catches of 52lbs, 42lbs and 35lbs of mostly hybrids and some Roach. (picture of 52lbs attached). Also had a day on Lough Allen at Barney's shore and had a catch of hybrids and Roach of 40lbs but what really made the day is when I turned around to see 3 wild boar on the bank behind me (picture attached)."

Kevin Lyons, MELVIEW LODGE GUESTHOUSE, Drumlish Road, Clonrollagh, Co Longford Tel : 003534345061 Mob: Email:  info@melviewlodge.com Web: http://www.melviewlodge.com

Fishing in and around Strokestown and Longford areas has been very good most days with some days better than others - Bream to 6lbs and Tench to 5lb 6oz have been showing with early morning starts and pre-baiting proving to be productive. Most fish have been caught on the feeder using red maggots, Bright sunlight and low water levels have made the fish a little wary when feeding so when pre-baiting for the first time don't over do it and start fishing at first light or even try a spot of night fishing to find out what time fish are feeding at. Tune in next week when we will have more fishing reports, At the time of writing this it is reported that Dutch Pike anglers staying at Melview Lodge are having some great catches see the Pike fishing report.

Lee and Jeff from Doncaster were on there first fishing trip to Ireland as a birthday treat for Jeff who was celebrating his 50th birthday, They stayed with Kevin and Jane Lyons at Melview Lodge in Longford and a good week and 50th it turned out to be. Kevin commented that the lads pre-baited and fished early and did everything right and were rewarded with good catches of Bream and Tench, some day's were better than others but when you have catches to over the 100lbs on your first time to Ireland you don't mind ( Well done lads ).

A few fish are being caught but during late evening sessions. Fishing during the day is likely to be slow due to the very bright sunny weather. The town stretch is producing good size Bream to 4lbs plus at the , again late into the evening. The Shannon at Portumna town stretch is fishing well. Good hybrids and Roach. There are a lot of fish about by all accounts, lots of shoals of small fish showing, spawning is nearly over and fish are cleaning off.
