ESTABLISHMENT OF INLAND FISHERIES IRELAND - SEE
PRESS RELEASE DATED JULY 1st, 2010
Angling Centre: Killaloe,
Co Clare
General Fishery Area: Lower
River Shannon & Lough Derg South

LOCATION
The scenic
villages of Killaloe and Ballina are divided by the
River Shannon at the southern end of the mighty 32,000 acre Lough
Derg. These villages are 25 kms from Limerick City and
approximately 50 kms from Shannon Airport. Killaloe is a well
established Pike and Coarse Angling Centre with all supporting services
available to the visitor.
WHERE TO FISH
Fisheries described in this guide cover the lower
river Shannon. There are many hidden waters, remote shores and island
swims on the southern end of Lough Derg where
exceptional bream fishing can be had for those more adventurous anglers. Beware these are open shores, are very rocky and should be avoided during
adverse weather conditions in the interest of your own safety. TJ O'Brien - TJ's Angling centre arranges trips and offers support to anglers
visiting this part of the region. Always check the weather forecast.
There are shore facilities and fishing stands at
Twomilegate nearby for those who are not happy moving by boat and are suitable
for disabled anglers. Killaloe is also
a good base for those interested in fishing the EAST
CLARE LAKES. Other neighbouring angling centres include
O'BRIENSBRIDGE on the River Shannon and
MOUNTSHANNON and
SCARIFF on Lough Derg's western shores
