ANGLERS ENJOY GOOD COARSE FISHING AT A NUMBER OF VENUES

The Carrick-on-Shannon Angling Festival celebrates its 30th birthday this year and the four-day event is attracting a new batch of overseas match fishermen who hope to win the guaranteed €1,000 first prize. Belgian angling guests of Melview lodge did well on pre-baited swims at select venues in the upper Shannon region, bagging quality Bream, Tench and other mixed coarse fish. The change in the weather over recent days with cold evenings and bright sunny days has affected catch rates though. Anglers are reporting excellent Perch fishing trolling on Lough Ree, with big Perch showing. Dermot Killeen reports some good catches on the mid Shannon around Shannonbridge, Lower River Suck and the Grand Canal, good Bream catches and lots of big Perch showing also in the catches. The reports from Banagher are similar - big explosions of Perch. A Co Clare angler reported very good fishing on Doon Lake Co Clare. Angling conditions remain good with the cooler night temperatures to be replaced by milder conditions over the coming days. Water levels are generally at low summer level and very clear but rain is forecast for the weekend.  TIGHT LINES!
