ESTABLISHMENT OF INLAND FISHERIES IRELAND - SEE
PRESS RELEASE DATED JULY 1st, 2010
Angling Centre:
Boyle, Co Roscommon
General Fishery Area: Boyle
River, Lough Key, Lough Gara & other local Lakes
LOCATION
Boyle is located in the Upper Shannon Region and
lies at the foot of the Curlieu Mountains, on the main Dublin/Sligo N4 route.
WHERE TO FISH
There are a number of productive fisheries within
the vicinity of Boyle which hold good stocks of most coarse fish, including
Bream, Roach, Tench. Some noted pike fishing lakes are also available. Lough Key
in particular boasts a former Irish record Lake Pike
of 39 lbs. 3ozs caught by Michael Egan
on the 11th
of April1993 and was only relatively recently beaten in 2002. Five other lakes are described
including three hotspots on the Boyle River. Other neighbouring angling
centres describe a lot of other fisheries and angling hotspots of which Boyle
can serve as a good base. CARRICK ON SHANNON
and DRUMSHANBO are but a
short distance away and have a myriad of coarse fisheries.
